Artists Statement Emerging Painter.
I am mostly self-taught with the exception of a few art courses in college. Until recently, my painting would build up over long periods of time and then violently burst forth. I mistook this for inspiration and passion. I thought artists always painted that way. And, I thought that since it only happened once in a great while, I was not meant to be an artist. Now I know better. Now I know that I actually painted in a fit of desperation, not passion, to release the pressure of neglected creativity. Now I paint because it connects me to other people, nature, and the divine. My paintings communicate what I find hard to say.
I am inspired by dreams and visions, books, music, and nature. I am also inspired by other artists and sometimes by my own art as well. I gravitate to vibrant color, dramatic contrast, and hopeful themes. It is my hope to share a bit of the joy of making art with others.
